Participants in this summer internship program will collaborate with research experts in state-of-the-art laboratories at HZB campuses in Berlin, where cutting-edge experiments on energy conversion take place. They will gain valuable insights into the efficient use of energy and power across advanced scientific fields. This international program offers an exceptional platform for students passionate about making meaningful contributions to addressing climate change.
During this eight-week paid International Summer Student Program (ISSP), participants will have the opportunity to visit the BESSY II accelerator, where they can explore advanced devices and machinery used for electron storage and acceleration. The program includes interactive workshops, such as those on science communication and entrepreneurship, and concludes with a scientific poster presentation at a final event.
Students will also connect with peers from diverse cultural backgrounds, offering a unique chance for networking and social engagement during their stay in Germany. While working on research projects in modern laboratories, participants will gain valuable hands-on experience with scientific equipment, preparing them for future success in their careers.

Scholarship Value/ Inclusion for HZB Summer Student Program in Germany 2025:
- External participants will receive a monthly stipend of €1,900 (gross).
- Students from universities in Berlin and Potsdam will receive €1,000 (gross) during the program.
- Up to 75% of travel expenses will be reimbursed:
- Maximum of €200 for participants from EU countries.
- Maximum of €800 for participants from non-EU countries.
- Includes visits to two research centers within the HBZ institutes.
- Guided tours of additional research facilities in Berlin.
- Sessions on entrepreneurship and scientific culture are part of the program.
Eligibility Criteria for HZB Summer Student Program in Germany 2025:
- Must be an undergraduate student in fields such as Biology, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Engineering, Life Sciences, Environmental Sciences, or similar disciplines.
- Should have completed at least four semesters in a relevant degree program.
- Must be enrolled in a university at the time of participation in the HZB program.
- Proficiency in English.
- Required to submit a letter of recommendation as part of the application.
