Eligibility Criteria
To apply for the University of Pretoria Commonwealth Scholarship 2026, applicants must meet the following requirements:

The scholarship is open only to residents of Commonwealth countries, excluding South Africa.

Applicants must be citizens of one of the Commonwealth member countries.

Students must plan to begin their PhD studies at the University of Pretoria in 2026.

A separate application for admission to a doctoral program at the University of Pretoria for the 2026 academic year must be submitted.

Applicants are required to secure a potential supervisor at the University of Pretoria before submitting their scholarship application.

Academic qualifications must be evaluated and approved by the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA).

Candidates must have completed their postgraduate or Master’s degree within the past two years.
-
Applicants must be under the age of 40 at the time of application.
-
Students who are currently registered for a PhD or Master’s degree at the University of Pretoria, or those who have studied there previously, are not eligible to apply.

- Applicants must download and complete the official University of Pretoria Commonwealth Scholarship application form before submission.
- A separate application for admission to a doctoral (PhD) program at the University of Pretoria for the 2026 academic year must also be submitted in addition to the scholarship application.
- Prepare all the required documents listed above and combine them into a single PDF file.

A motivation letter from the supervisor at the University of Pretoria.

A certificate of study leave from the applicant’s current employer or organization.

Two reference letters from two different supervisors who know the applicant’s academic or professional background.
