- Nationality: Applicants must be citizens of an ICGEB Member State. They are not allowed to apply for fellowships to be carried out in their home country, unless they have been working abroad for a minimum of 3 years at the time of application.

- Research Experience: A minimum of 3 years of research experience is required.
- Age Preference: Preference is given to candidates who are below the age of 35.
