The American University in Cairo Fellowships 2024
The American University in Cairo is offering Fellowships for the academic year 2024-2025, available to international students pursuing master’s and PhD studies. These fellowships cover full tuition fees, student housing, and much more.
The Tomorrow’s Leaders Graduate (TLG) fellowship program is a collaboration between the US Department of State, Bureau of Near Eastern Affairs (NEA/AC), and AUC. TLG aims to support academically qualified and financially deserving students by providing them with the necessary professional qualifications and experience. This helps them contribute to advancing knowledge and addressing socially relevant issues in the MENA region through organized graduate study and research. The international program focuses on the professional development of emerging leaders and proposes local solutions to shared problems.

- In an exchange semester, the institutional fellowship covers only AUC tuition. However, Graduate Student Support Grants may offer assistance for additional expenses based on the criteria and regulations governing these support grants.

Graduate Student Support Grant:
- Conference Grants: These grants are designed to help cover expenses related to presenting a research paper at a recognized conference, showcasing work conducted during the applicant’s time as a graduate student at AUC.
- Research Grants: These grants aim to assist with expenses associated with research conducted for an AUC graduate thesis. Support may include:
- Supplies, services, and data acquisition from local or international sources.
- Publishing costs such as reprints, page charges, manuscript preparation, and journal publication fees.
- Travel expenses, if applicable, including airfare, accommodation, visa fees, and health insurance.
- Grants may also be used for purchasing minor equipment or software licenses with approval from the program director or department chair. Any equipment or licenses acquired become the property of the program/department at the end of the grant period.
- Exchange/Study Abroad Grants: These grants assist with airfare and living expenses for studying abroad. Applicants must be accepted as non-degree students or visiting scholars at an institution offering credits transferable to AUC, for a period of up to one semester. This grant aims to support exchange/study abroad opportunities that contribute to fulfilling the applicant’s graduate degree requirements at AUC.
Eligibility Criteria:
- To compete for the fellowship as a graduate student, complete your AUC application for admission and submit a graduate fellowship application online.
- Priority for fellowships is given to applicants with excellent academic standing who are fully admitted into a specific graduate program.
- Applicants provisionally admitted with remedial English language requirements are still eligible for fellowship support.
- Institutional and external fellowships may cover remedial English language requirements unless otherwise stated in the specific fellowship listing.
- Candidates provisionally admitted with the condition of achieving certain grades in one or more program graduate courses are eligible for fellowship support.
- Applicants provisionally admitted with prerequisite undergraduate courses are not eligible for fellowship support.
- Continuing graduate students need a GPA of 3.2 or higher to be eligible for fellowship applications unless specified otherwise in the fellowship listing.
- Continuing graduate fellows must maintain a GPA of 3.2 or higher to retain the fellowship unless otherwise stated in the specific fellowship details.
