NIAS Safe Haven Fellowship
Originally created to support researchers affected by conflict in specific regions, the program has now expanded to welcome applicants from any country facing risk. Whether affected by war, political persecution, censorship, or forced exile, individuals who can no longer work freely in their home environments are encouraged to apply.
The fellowship is part of a broader effort to support freedom of thought and expression, and to give people the chance to rebuild their lives and careers.

Scholarship Value/ Inclusions for NIAS Safe Haven Fellowship
This is a fully funded opportunity and includes the following benefits:

A monthly stipend of around €3,500, which helps cover living expenses. In some cases, this may be €2,500 depending on the cycle.

Travel support, including round-trip airfare to and from Amsterdam.

Housing assistance, such as a housing subsidy or help with commuting costs.

A private office space, access to the library, and participation in lectures and community lunches.

Eligibility Criteria
This fellowship is open to individuals who:

Work in the fields of humanities, social sciences, journalism, or the arts.

Have experienced serious risks to their safety, such as war, political pressure, or forced relocation.

Are not able to work safely or freely in their home countries.

Can speak and write English fluently, as it is the main language used during the program.

Are able to work at least four days a week in person in Amsterdam.
For academic research applicants:

You must have a PhD degree and at least three years of postdoctoral experience.
For artistic or journalistic applicants:

A PhD is not required.
