The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MAECI) is pleased to invite international students for the Italian Government Scholarship 2025/26. This scholarship is open to both international students and Italian citizens living abroad who are interested in enrolling in Master’s or PhD programs at public or recognized universities in Italy.
Italian Government MAECI Scholarship
Applicants from 141 eligible countries are invited to apply. The international scholarship is designed to support students with limited financial means and is offered across four academic categories: Master’s Degrees, Higher Education in Arts, Music, and Dance (AFAM), PhD programs, and research projects under academic guidance.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MAECI) is offering grants for the 2025–2026 academic year to foreign citizens residing abroad, as well as Italian citizens living abroad (IRE). These grants are designed to promote international collaboration in cultural, scientific, and technological fields, support the spread of the Italian language and culture, and boost the global visibility of Italy’s economic system.

Scholarship Value/ Inclusions for Italian Government MAECI Scholarship
The MAECI Scholarship provides the following benefits:

Master’s degree students must have a Bachelor’s degree.

For Master’s degree student age should be 28 years old or younger at the time of application.

PhD applicants must be no older than 30 years at the time of application.

Applicants must provide proof of English language proficiency through:

Another recognized language certificate, or

An official English proficiency letter from their institution.

How to Apply for Italian Government MAECI Scholarship?
Applicants are required to complete their application through the “Study in Italy” online portal. It is not necessary to be admitted to a university before applying. Please be aware that applying for the MAECI Scholarship and securing university admission are two independent processes.
For the scholarship application, candidates must use the official online platform provided by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. After being awarded the scholarship, you will then need to obtain admission to a public university in Italy.
