But they charged only tuition after finishing their sixth semester and you have to pay a little semester contribution of 150-200 euros per semester. PhD students mostly work on research projects or they receive a scholarship.

Tuition Free Universities in Finland: 

According to the study in Finland official website the tuition fee for non EU/EEA citizens has been introduced from 2017 autumn for Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree that are taught in English language. The PHD student’s tuition fee is free. The Finland Universities and UAS’s offer different scholarship for non-EU/EEA students for Bachelor and Master Degree program. EDUFI Fellowships are also available to cover the cost-of-living expenses for one academic year for PHD students.

According to the study in Sweden the application and tuition fee are for those students who are not citizens of EU/EEA/Nordic country or Switzerland studying at the Bachelor and Master Degree program. The Swedish universities and significant number of institutes cover fully and partially scholarships in the form of tuition waivers for all the international students. 

PhD students in Sweden are normally offered as paid positions by universities or from external funding which means that if you are offered a position as a PhD candidate, you will not have to pay fee and you will receive a monthly salary also.
