Vrije University Brussel Scholarship

VUB Scholarships for the European Master of Science in Photonics are available for international students. Vrije University Brussel offers several fully funded scholarships worth 10,000 EUR per year to help cover living expenses in Brussels. VUB is a university in Brussels, at the heart of Europe, with a global focus. VUB aims to contribute to a stronger future through high-quality education. During the admission process, applicants will have the chance to demonstrate their technical skills. After being accepted into the program, each scholarship application will be evaluated based on excellence and motivation.

The B-PHOT Brussels Photonics Research Group at VUB also offers competitive scholarships to talented students. Those enrolling in the MSc in Photonics at VUB may receive a B-PHOT Excellence Scholarship without needing to apply separately. Scholarship recipients must complete a thesis at VUB and may be encouraged to pursue a PhD at VUB B-PHOT if they graduate with honours and demonstrate strong skills.

The international program is open to those with a bachelor’s or master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, (Applied) Physics, Materials Sciences, or similar fields. Students in their final year of these programs can also apply. Those with degrees in other engineering fields can join through a tailored preparatory program that can be combined with a specific bachelor’s or master’s degree. Belgian students with degrees in Architecture, Physics, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Electronics/ICT, Engineering Science, or related fields can apply for a 30 ECTS preparatory program leading to the Master of Science in Photonics or the European MSc in Photonics.

Benefits of Vrije University Brussel Scholarship

VUB offers several scholarships to students of the European Master of Science in Photonics. The scholarships include:

  • Full scholarships of 10,000 EUR per year to help cover living costs.
  • Three Continuation Scholarships of 1,500 EUR for the top 3 students after the first semester.
  • One Excellence Scholarship worth 5,000 EUR at the start of the second year.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Be from any country.
  • Must have been taken within the last two years, with a minimum score of 570.
  • Must have been taken within the last two years, with a minimum overall band score of 6.0.
  • First Certificate in English.
  • If you have a diploma from a recognized institution in the Flemish Community, you don’t need to provide proof of language proficiency.
  • You are also exempt from the language test if you have completed at least one year (60 credits) of secondary or higher education where English was the language of instruction. You must submit an official certificate to prove this.
